Trump aims to end birthright citizenship, says American citizens with family here illegally may be deported
Have you ever considered the remarkable strength women bring to leadership? Throughout history, from Deborah, the courageous prophetess and judge (Judges 4), to Esther, the brave queen who saved her people (Esther), the Bible showcases women who defied limitations and led with wisdom and compassion. Talk Story with Kūpaoa was produced and engineered in the studio at KKCR Kauaʻi Community Radio by a grant from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting.

“They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce” will be recorded before a live audience at Union Transfer, a 1,200-capacity music venue in Philadelphia’s Callowhill neighborhood. “I loved late-night shows. I’ve always loved them. I remember sleepovers watching Conan O’Brien with my friends,” Kelce said in an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in November. “We’re going to have a bunch of guys up there – legends of the game, friends that I played with, coaches, celebrities.”
In her downtime, Maduli enjoys spending time with her big ‘ohana (family), creating handmade goods with her home décor line “Hale Sweet Hale” (home sweet home); practicing Aloha ‘Aina (love of the land) through gardening and activism and dancing hula. McKenna Maduli grew up in Kalihi Valley and in Hawaiʻi’s music industry, as the daughter of industry titans Kata and Janet Maduli. The Maduli ʻohana produced memorable concerts like Mākaha Bash, and managed stars like Teresa Bright, Del Beazley, Mākaha Sons and Cyril Pahinui, just to name a few. Talk Story encourages individuals to reveal their stories in their own words and to share them with others. “Telling” refers to people saying what is historically important to them.

The first the public knew of the cancer that killed him was when his manager, Keith Aspden, publicly announced Hollis’ death in February 2019. As in life, Hollis chose to depart quietly and with dignity – though that certainly doesn’t mean he wasn’t mourned. “I… like the character and realism of acoustic instruments,” he told Music Minded.
- Granting a few rare interviews at the time of the album’s release, Hollis offered some choice insights into the recording process.
- The opportunity allowed her to realize her true passion—cultivating unique Hawaiʻi content that uplifts the local community.
- Friese-Greene never performed live with Talk Talk, but he played an influential Brian Eno-esque role during recording sessions.
Today, the art of kaona is continued by those who are carrying on the traditions of writing oli and mele for a new generation. “Mele oli” are chants unaccompanied by any instruments and are generally performed by one individual; while “mele hula” are chants accompanied by dance and/or musical instruments. I think one of my favorite Hawaiian phrases is ‘talk story.” I love hearing a good story just as much as I love telling one. Even if you attend the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce Northern California meeting, there is always a ‘talk story’ time. Every week we post Hawaiian words of the week, tips for living aloha, and sometimes share our favorite gems on the Hawaiian Islands. Trump also described scenarios in which U.S. citizens may choose to be deported along with family members in the country illegally.
Whether you are the operational leader of your household, a business leader, or a recognized community leader, this isn’t just about inspiration, it’s about action – as who you were created. Throughout her time in Los Angeles she interned at KABC with George Pennacchio, gaining valuable experience in both hard & entertainment news. Maduli honed her skills as an entertainment reporter for the likes of NBC’s Access Hollywood, MTV, VH1 and Billboard Magazine’s “Billboard Live.” Through high profile award shows, events and red carpet premieres, she had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest celebrities in the world. Despite her growing success in Hollywood, however, her heart was yearning to return home.
Natives pass on ancient cultural practices, values, traditions and historical information through storytelling. A year in the making, Talk Talk’s fourth album again featured contributions from numerous guests, among them Robbie McIntosh and percussionist Martin Ditcham. This time, however, Hollis and Friese-Greene decided against writing structured songs, instead editing the record’s six tracks down from much longer improvisations – most of which were recorded while the studio lights were dimmed to create the desired ambience.
Children were expected to listen and take away lessons they could use. Originally, they were expected to listen quietly to the stories but over time, this changed, as storytelling became more interactive. Native Hawaiian children enjoyed their own kind of storytelling, called “he he”, a game similar to “cat’s cradle”, in which they sang or recited stories as they manipulated string in their fingers. Traditionally, it was believed that words with hidden meanings might bring good or bad fortune. It was rude to be direct, so sometimes kaona was used as a way of criticising something. As in all storytelling, each person would interpret the kaona either literally or figuratively, based on prior knowledge.
But, he said, he is open to working with Democrats to pass legislation that would ensure Dreamers — undocumented immigrants who entered the U.S. as children — would be able to remain in the country. President-elect Donald Trump said in an interview with “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker that “you have no choice” but to deport everyone who is illegally in the U.S., including possibly removing the American citizen family members of those deported. “You know, get my name out on the stage a little bit more. I don’t feel like publicity is bad, especially if you’re not saying anything.
Host Manulele Clarke interviewed Keola Beamer in March of 2001 at KKCR’s studio, Princeville Hawaiʻi. When I talk story on this blog, I will be sharing personal experiences from my youth. I may also use Talk Story for giving the backstory for the particular post. Born and raised on the island of Oʻahu, Maduli was immersed in the entertainment industry through her parents’ music and production endeavors, as well as her own performance experience as a young hula dancer. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, she ventured to California to attend Foothill College in San Francisco before moving to Los Angeles to pursue the Broadcast Entertainment program at UCLA Extension.
After 14 years in Hollywood, Maduli answered the call and returned to Hawaiʻi in 2016 where she joined KHON2 (FOX) as the Weekend Weather Anchor and morning news reporter on WakeUp2Day. Two years later she left weather to create a position in Local Content Development at Hawaii News Now (CBS & NBC). The opportunity allowed her to realize her true passion—cultivating unique Hawaiʻi content that Jeff Gere uplifts the local community.

Friese-Greene never performed live with Talk Talk, but he played an influential Brian Eno-esque role during recording sessions. He encouraged the band to use more organic instrumentation instead of synthesisers, and supported Hollis’ desire to write more introspective and impactful songs. He also suggested that Hollis, Harris and Webb extend their line-up, bringing in skilled studio alumni, including keyboardist Ian Curnow and Pretenders guitarist Robbie McIntosh, to play on future recordings.
